Rome – Phototour in the Italian capital

In September 2014 my girlfriend and I went on a 2-day vacation to Rome – Italy.
About my Equipment
I used the Nikon D600 and the Nikkor 24-120 F4. Although i sold the lens after the trip (I prefer an F2.8 zoom lens for walking around) I can say that this lens is a very good allround “travel lens” for those who don’t want to change the lens and therefore need appropriate focal lengths. Also i took 2 spare batteries and four 16 GB memory cards with me. Unfortunatly the oil and dust issue occurs the first time at this trip, so the later photos shows more and more dust/oil spots. I tried to eliminate all of them in post processing but it may be that i missed some of them.
And now i want to show you my impressions of the city.
Day 1 – Walk around and Musei Vaticani
On the first day, we decided to go for a walk without a specific “sightseeing plan”. On our route we came along:
“Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore”
“Parco Del Colle Oppio”
“Anfiteatro Flavio – Colosseo” (as we planned to visit the Colloseum on the next day, we only went around it)
“Arco di Costantino”
In the afternoon we visited the “Musei Vaticani”, which comprises numerous impressive artworks. At some places you have moreover a nice view at the “Giardini Vaticani” and over the city.
After visiting the museum we decided to go to the “Piazza San Pietro” and “Basilica di San Pietro”. The two words which came to my mind when entering the “Piazza San Pietro” and the Basilica itself were “big” and “overwhelming”. Also at most entrances you find the famous “Swiss Guard”.
Day 2 – Colloseum and some Sightseeing Spots
On the second day in the morning we visited the colloseum. After a short wait at the entrance we got in and again we were overwhelmed how big it is when you personally stand there. At some places in the Colloseum you can see the Palatino.
In the afternoon we went for a walk in the inner city to visit some of the famous sightseeing spots.

“Fontana di Trevi” – This was a bit disappointing as we weren’t able to see the fountain due to restauration work.

It was a very nice trip to a beautiful city, rich of culture, and we will visit again in the future. It is not possible to go to all interesting places in this short time.
