Beautiful Ireland – Part II

Welcome back to my Ireland travelog. If you haven’t already read Part I with pictures of Galway, The Burren National Park and the Cliffs of Moher, you find it here! In todays blog post I cover days 3 and 4 of our trip.
Day 3
Silverstrand Beach near Barna
On day 3 we decided to follow the Wild Atlantic Way to explore some beautiful places. Our first stop after driving through Galway was Silverstrand Beach near Barna. It’s very easy to find, once you are on the Silverstrand Street, follow it until the end. There you will find a big parking lot at the beach promenade adjacent to the very beautiful little beach. At the time we were there, it was low tide. At high tide, the water reaches the rocks next to the promenade. Due to this fact the beach was full with seagrass and funny looking things where we didn’t have a clue what it was. Also the rocks were covered with shells. We took our time to explore and enjoy this little beautiful beach.
The Coral Beach – Trá an Dóilin
From Silverstrand Beach we drove back to the main road and headed further west through beautiful landscapes. After a while we arrived at the Coral Beach near the village Carraroe. Leaving the car at the parking lot we headed down to the lovely, interesting looking beach. It was mainly a rocky shore with nice little flowers in-between and some areas consisting of sand with plenty of shells. We also found various little pools between these rocks. Looking inland we saw grassland crisscrossed with the typical irish stone walls. We wandered around for quite some time and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of this place.
Kinvara and Danguaire Castle
It was time to head back to Galway for something to eat. After this short break we drove to our last destination of the day. The village Kinvara with Danguaire Castle nearby at the shore of Galway Bay. It was already a bit late so the village was very quiet. There were no tourists around. Sadly the castle was also closed due to a medieval dinner going on inside which was for invited people only. But nevertheless we explored the village and also the accessible parts of the castle.
Day 4
Galway
Wednesday unfortunately was a rainy day. We decided to use this day to visit Galway again for some shopping and a visit of the beautiful Galway Cathedral. We took the bus to Eyre Square and began our walk to the gorgeous Cathedral.
After the visit of the Cathedral we went alongside the river Corrib to the pedestrian area of Galway with its shops, cafes and bars for some shopping and dinner.
Also days 3 and 4 in Ireland were very enjoyable. We experienced interesting and gorgeous landscapes and despite the weather on day 4 the second visit of Galway was also very nice.
