In this blog post I want to show you my hike to the Löckermoos in Upper Austria. The Löckermoos is a swamp more than 1.400 meters above sea level and one of the most beautiful locations in Upper Austria.

Altough it was a long hiking day I took plenty of my gear with me. The Nikon D750, the Tamron SP 24-70 and the Tamron SP 15-30 found their way into my Lowepro Flipside 400 AW backpack.

Now to the pictures

It was a beautiful saturday when we started the tour. We drove to Gosau Mittertal, where the about 14 km long hiking route started. We also had to cover about 700 meters altitude. We walked to the start of the (in the beginning) very steep path at 760 meters above sea level. It led us for about one and a half hour through a beautiful forest to some huts near a quarry where we took a short break. The morning light also created a beautiful illumination of the vegetation.

After the break at the huts we continued our hike towards the swamp along a wooden path. After a short walk through the forest we reached the swamp, which was a very interesting looking landscape with a beautiful mountainscape in the background.

Eventually we arrived at the highlight of the Löckermoos. A little lake only fed by groundwater from the swamp. A gorgeous view!

We rested there for a while enjoying the beautiful nature before we continued our hike. The lake was the highest point of this hike at over 1.400 meters above sea level, so from now on we walked down towards lake Gosau.

After some hours of relaxed hiking we got a first view at lake Gosau and a short time later we stood at the shore of the lake. It was a beautiful view with the water, the mountains of the Gosau-Kamm as well as the Dachstein in the background. This was also the end point of a very enjoyable day in the nature.

I hope you enjoyed the short story and the pictures. The Gosau valley, especially with the Löckermoos moor, is a beautiful place for hiking and landscape photography and surely worth a visit!

Cheers Tom
